Dave Kester – Founder of F1337 Command™

Hey, I’m Dave and I’m the founder of F1337 Command™ and I’m glad to be writing this post.

I tend to think in lists. Here is a list about me:

  • I’ve been playing D&D and other various RPG games since 1982 when my dad brought home the red box opened it up and I rolled up a fighter.
  • At one point in my D&D career I and a friend played D&D with only the MM and 4 six sided dice. We would buy 100 owls and dogs and send them into randomly generated dungeon rooms as scouts. When they died we’d know what was in the room.
  • I am a technical project and strategic manager and I have been managing mid to large scale technical projects for corporations across 8 or 9 industries for about 15 years.
  • I currently am a Director of a consulting group in a large scale retail UI project for a large corporation.
  • Four years ago during a therapy session I realized that for most of my life I had, for various reasons, suppressed my creative side. I made the decision to spend some amount of time every day creating something.
  • As a matter of professional and personal development I have spent the last 10 years researching corporate structures and management styles in a desire to understand the impact of the information age on the ways corporations work and form.
  • Two years ago I realized I wanted to combine my management capability with my desire to create. This led to the creation of a company dedicated to being a geek. F1337 Command™ is the embodiment of that decision and evolution.

I consider myself a typical 40 something geek male. Mostly because, I play D&D more than weekly, I work in technology management, read books exclusively on a kindle, and I don’t know my mom’s number because its been programmed into my phone for more than ten years.
I currently split my time between work, family, gaming, and www.f1337command.com. As such when I’m working I’m typically in front of my two computers (NOTE: I LOVE Synergy) or in a coffee shop pounding furiously on my laptop.

When I’m not working these days I’m usually running or organizing a gaming event with friends and family, watching a movie with my wife, or parenting my two daughters.

With the change in focus of F1337 Command™ on D&D 4e this January I can sense that the direction has really taken hold of me and I am feeling really joyful about the site and how it’s going.

I hope to share the joy of gaming and creating with everyone involved in this community. Please, ping me on twitter/djkester or via email at dave “a” f1337command “dot” com if you want to startup a conversation.
